New Additions to our Collection

In her dreams he's irresistible—seductive, charming, and undoubtedly dangerous. But when he appears to her when she's awake—and captivates her just the same—she's not sure which way is up and which is down.

Theia Alderson has always led a sheltered life, not allowed the same freedoms as the rest of the teenagers in the small California town of Serendipity Falls. But when a devastatingly handsome boy appears in the halls of her school, she feels every urge she's ever denied burning through her at the slightest glance from Haden Black. Theia knows she's seen Haden before—not around town, but in her dreams.
Theia doesn't understand how she dreamed of Haden before they ever met, but every night has them joined in a haunting world of eerie fantasy. And as the Haden of both the night and the day beckons her forward one moment and pushes her away the next, the only thing Theia knows for sure is that the incredible pull she feels towards him is stronger than her fear. And as she slowly discovers what Haden truly is, Theia's not sure if she wants to resist him, even if the cost is her soul.

Imagine a living prison so vast that it contains corridors and forests, cities and seas. Imagine a prisoner with no memory, who is sure he came from Outside, even though the prison has been sealed for centuries and only one man, half real, half legend, has ever escaped.
Imagine a girl in a manor house in a society where time has been forbidden, where everyone is held in a seventeenth century world run by computers, doomed to an arranged marriage that appals her, tangled in an assassination plot she both dreads and desires.
One inside, one outside
But both imprisoned.
Imagine a war that has hollowed the moon, seven skullrings that contain souls, a flying ship and a wall at the world's end.
Imagine the unimaginable.
Imagine Incarceron.

Raina just wants to be a normal sixth grader. But one night after Girl Scouts she trips and falls, severely injuring her two front teeth, and what follows is a long and frustrating journey with on-again, off-again braces, surgery, embarrassing headgear, and even a retainer with fake teeth attached. And on top of all that, there's still more to deal with: a major earthquake, boy confusion, and friends who turn out to be not so friendly. This coming-of-age true story is sure to resonate with anyone who has ever been in middle school, and especially those who have ever had a bit of their own dental drama.

It took them an eternity to find one another, but now he has told her he must go away. Just long enough to hunt down the Outcasts—immortals who want to kill Luce. Daniel hides Luce at Shoreline, a school on the rocky California coast with unusually gifted students: Nephilim, the offspring of fallen angels and humans.
At Shoreline, Luce learns what the Shadows are, and how she can use them as windows to her previous lives. Yet the more Luce learns, the more she suspects that Daniel hasn’t told her everything. He’s hiding something—something dangerous.
What if Daniel’s version of the past isn’t actually true? What if Luce is really meant to be with someone else?

See you next week!

Our theme will be
Hodge Podge of Books

In November…..

Week of November 8, 2011Today's stories are about animal sounds. Besides being fun to play with sounds that animals make, it serves an educational purpose by helping your child develop an awareness of the smaller sounds in words. That's called phonological awareness, and it's one of the skills every child needs to learn before being able to read.

The books that we shared today were:

Barnyard Dance! By Sandra BoyntonHere a Chick, Where a Chick? By Suse MacDonald
Barnyard Banter by Denise Fleming

Other books:

Cat Goes Fiddle-I-Fee by Paul GaldoneBarnyard Slam by Dian Curtis Regan

Action Rhyme:

Animals on the Bus
Tune: “The Wheels on the Bus”
The pigs on the bus go oink, oink, oink.
Oink, oink, oink, oink, oink, oink.
The pigs on the bus go oink, oink, oink,
All through the town. (Substitute other animals…)
Chickens…cluck
Sheep…..baa
Ducks…quack
Horse…neigh
Cows…moo

Leaves
The leaves are whirling round and round.
(Wave fingers in air.)
The leaves are falling to the ground.
(Wave fingers down to floor.)
Round and round, round and round.
(Roll one hand over the other.)
Falling softly to the ground.
(Softly wave hands down to the ground.)

OPENING SONG:

The More We Get Together
The more we get together
together, together,
The more we get together
the happier we’ll be!
'Cause your friends
are my friends
And my friends
are your friends.
The more we get together
the happier we’ll be!

CLOSING SONG:

Goodbye Song
Tune: “If Your Happy and You Know It” or She’ll be coming ‘Round the Mountain

Oh, it's time to say good-bye to all my friends.Oh, it's time to say good-bye to all my friends.Oh, it's time to say good-bye.Give a smile and wink my eye.Oh, it's time to say good-bye to all my friends.

Additions to our collection

In the sweltering heat of an Atlanta summer, a killer is pushing the city to its breaking point, preying on the unsuspecting, writing taunting letters to the media, promising more death. Desperate to stop the Wishbone Killer before another victim meets a shattering end, A.P.D. Lieutenant Aaron Rauser turns to the one person he knows can penetrate a deranged mind: ex-FBI profiler Keye Street.

Keye was a rising young star at the Bureau until addiction derailed her career and her life. Now sober and fighting to stay so, Keye picks up jobs where she can get them: catching adulterers, serving subpoenas, chasing down bailjumpers, and dodging the occasional bullet. With multiple victims, little to go on, and an entire police force looking for direction, the last thing Keye wants is to be pulled into the firestorm of Atlanta’s worst nightmare.

And then it suddenly becomes clear that the hunter has become the hunted – and the stranger she seeks is far closer than she ever dared imagine.

An electrifying thriller debut, The Stranger You Seek introduces a brash, flawed, and unforgettable heroine in a complex, twisting novel that takes readers deep into a sultry Southern summer, a city in the grips of chaos, and a harrowing cat-and-mouse game no reader will ever forget.

KIRKUS REVIEWS – The World’s Toughest Book Critics

STARRED Review

“A suspenseful tale of a clever crime-solver who gets a little too close to the action… Williams creates a frightening and occasionally witty novel, perfect for those who can sleep with one eye open. Think Mary Higgins Clark with an edge.”

Jaine sets off for a fancy health spa, thinking she's in for a week of pampering and papaya smoothies—only to learn that the place is a 900-calorie-a-day diet boot camp! Murder soon shows up on the menu, and Jaine spends the rest of the week searching for both the killer and something decent---as in "Chunky Monkey"---to eat. http://www.lauralevinemysteries.com/books.htm

“Barclay’s best thriller to date.” Jeff Ayers, ABC News.

“Barclay is up to the minute when it comes to the dire economic circumstances a lot of hard-working people, particularly Americans, suddenly face as the economy tanks.” Joan Barfoot, Toronto Sun

“Loved it. His best book to date.” Stephen King

“Barclay tells a fine tale, with blackmail, murder, suspense and the murky world of counterfeit goods. Just when you think you’ve figured it out, well, you haven’t.” Anne Sutherland, Montreal Gazette.
